The biggest issue I had with it, besides the fact that it came at a point where people were using multitasking enough that they really needed a modern protected memory OS like Windows NT for stability was the fact that it went out of the way to hide MS-DOS functionality. ME was interesting.and not in a good way. I ran Vista 64-bit for at least 2 or 3 years before I finally switched to 7 without any issues at all. On a home built PC with decent specs Vista ran fine. Mainly because the hardware it was sold on was often way too underpowered to run it effectively.

I think I found some 3rd party driver eventually that let me map those keys to whatever I wanted there was even a stupid "shopping" key if I remember correctly, like a shopping cart button that brought up some shopping site on Internet Explorer, I couldn't even tell you what now as that was pre-Amazon so who knows?Īnyways yeah anyone that had a PC with ME on it and actually had to use it and work with it knows it wasn't hyperbole, it really was a flaming pile.

That was back when you didn't get a real OS disc with a box PC and only had a recovery disc and had to have a recovery partition and I remember being so frustrated I just nuked it and put 98SE on it but of course the stupid matching keyboard didn't have drivers for 98SE so none of the functionality and media keys worked. I spent more time fixing it and trying to get shit to work with it than I did using it. I had this piece of shit that I bought from a friend for a few hundred bucks and it came pre-installed with ME and it was constantly crashing and just a pain in the ass in general. Man that system restore shit got me twice for the year or so I ran ME.
